Highfield Investment Group to Acquire Century Downs and Century Mile

Highfield Investment Group is pleased to announce an agreement to acquire the racing and gaming operations of Century Downs Racetrack and Casino near Calgary and Century Mile Racetrack and Casino near Edmonton from Century Casinos.

This transaction marks an exciting new chapter for two of Alberta’s most important racing and entertainment destinations and represents a significant investment in the future of racing, hospitality and entertainment in the province of Alberta.

For the Highfield team, this opportunity is particularly meaningful. While the acquisition expands our presence in gaming and hospitality within the province, building off our existing hospitality holdings, it also builds on more than 20 years of experience in Thoroughbred breeding, ownership and racing through Highfield Stock Farm as well as decades of investment and operating experience across Alberta.

The connection to Century Downs is also a full-circle moment for our organization. Highfield was involved in the early development of the United Horsemen of Alberta and worked to help preserve the organization’s gaming licence and advance the opportunity that ultimately led to the development of Century Downs. Century Casinos subsequently opened Century Downs in 2015, followed by Century Mile in 2019.

We recognize and greatly appreciate the significant investment Century Casinos has made in Alberta’s racing industry and the foundation it has established at both facilities, and look forward to building on that foundation while bringing a long-term, Alberta-focused perspective to the operations moving forward.

“These operations are an excellent strategic fit with our experience in hospitality, operations and horse racing,” said Adrian Munro, Highfield’s president. “We are making a significant investment in Alberta because we believe in the continued growth of this business and in the long-term value it can create.”

The two facilities will continue to play an important role in Alberta’s racing community, supporting Thoroughbred, Standardbred and Quarter Horse racing while providing entertainment and hospitality experiences for guests across the province.

The transaction is still subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.

We looks forward to working with the teams, horsemen and women, industry partners and communities connected to both facilities as this next chapter takes shape.

A new chapter for Alberta racing is about to begin.
